Maggie Smith – Born In 1934

Who didn’t love the iconic professor Minerva McGonagall from the magical Harry Potter movies? Maggie Smith, the talented actress who gave life to the character, bagged countless awards during her career. Before she taught magic in Hogwarts, she appeared in several movies like Nowhere to Go, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, California Suite, and A Private Function. Among the recognitions she received were four BAFTA awards, two Academy Awards, and three Golden Globe awards.

She is also one of only seven actresses to ever win both an Academy Award for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress in the same year.

Dame Maggie had an extensive career as one of Britain’s most recognizable actresses. She played on stage, film, and television, with roles in more than 60 films over her 68 years in the industry. The 84-year-old artist was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, which, looking at the success she has had in her career, must have been covered extensively by her health insurance company.
