PETER KAY – BORN 1973

Peter Kay holds the Guinness World Record for the most successful comedy tour. He performed in front of nearly 1.2 million people on his 2010-11 comedy tour. He has specialized in one-person comedy shows, traveling the British Isles in recent years.

Kay grew up in the Lancashire town of Bolton.

In his memoir The Sound of Laughter, he recalls performing impersonations of Louis Armstrong and Frank Spencer as a child. Kay has always enjoyed entertaining others, even if he doubted whether he would ever make it into the world until he achieved his first breakthrough. His major credit came in 1996 when he auditioned for the North West Comedian of the Year competition. He was new to stand-up comedy, but he was named the best performer against stiff competition. Kay appreciates good music, warm baths, and spending time with his family despite being one of the most popular comedians in the UK.
