ALFIE BOE – BORN 1973
Alfie Boe is one of the UK’s most technically accomplished classical crossover performers. He grew up in Blackpool, England, listening to his father’s opera CDs, including Richard Tauber and Puccini’s La Boheme. Boe sang while painting and polishing vehicles in a local automobile factory as a young adult. A client noticed him and suggested he audition for London’s D’Oyly Carte Opera Company.
Boe auditioned for the company and was cast in the chorus, touring and performing Gilbert & Sullivan operas. After the tour, he received a scholarship to the Royal College of Music, attended the National Opera Studio, and then joined the Villar Young Artists Program at the Royal Opera House. Late in 2006, Boe moved to EMI Classics, and the following spring, his second album, Onward, arrived. He explored his love of folk music and ensured that his roots as a stage performer were well balanced with his career investments.
