Gabourey Sidibe – Born in 1983

Gabourey Sidibe supports body positivity. The award-winning actress doesn’t mind people who have anything to say about her weight and body. Sidibe was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1983 to an R&B singer mother and a Senegalese-born taxi driver father. Sidibe studied at City College of New York and Mercy College but dropped out to pursue an acting career. In May 2017, Sidibe’s long-awaited memoir was officially published. This memoir is full of wisdom, complexity and fun.

In her book, This Is Just My Face: Try Not To Stare, she talked about her incredible rise to fame when she did Precious, body image, and what it’s like to be her amid all the comments on her looks. Her advice to other people is to always mind their own body, especially to her who doesn’t have a body which is not Hollywood perfect. She admits she’s plus-sized, has dark skin, but she’s 100% beautiful, despite the too many flacks. Although she has lost some weight, she said it was for health reasons and not aesthetically.
